So the first day we checked in at the Hyatt Hill Country resort. We had one room to share which was going to be new for us. We had never stayed in one room before -- we had always booked two adjoining rooms up until now and each of us stayed with one of the boys at night. But due to last minute plans and the budget, we decided to go one room. And by some sort of miracle it all turned out well!
We got checked in on Sunday after make the three hour drive and headed down to the lazy river. The water was freezing and it had been rainy earlier in the day so the sun wasn't out. Ben and Luke were not the biggest fans. And the lazy river just isn't for toddlers. There were some tears and meltdowns, but we managed through. They had trouble staying on the floats and didn't enjoy just floating in a circle. We ended up enjoying it, but it took a lot of figuring out how to get them comfortable. They did have a little sand beach in one area and the boys loved it. Once we discovered that, we spent most of the time there!
After the lazy river, we went to the restaurant at the resort for dinner and then walked around the property and people watched and played on a the playground. The boys had a blast running around and it was nice to have some good quality family time. We headed back to the room once it was dark and did baths for the boys and put on their pj's. I was so worried about putting them to bed, but luckily we turned down the lights and Ben went down just fine in a crib in the corner. Luke got in one of the double beds and watched tv and was out eventually. It was truly a miracle! Chat and I snuck out to the balcony and had a few glasses of wine and chatted before turning in an hour or two later.

The boys got up early and we all headed down to the lazy river and pool for some more water fun. We actually ended up in the hot tub for a while since it still was so cool. We finally packed up our stuff and headed out around noon. We stopped off for some lunch at Rudy's barbeque and then hit up an HEB for some groceries (since our next place had a kitchen!). The boys napped in the car and then we made it to the next resort, the Hyatt Wild Oak Ranch.
We got their around 2:00 pm and our room wasn't ready. So we headed to the pool area. Luckily, my dear friend Lindsay and her family who live in Kerrville were in San Antonio for the day visiting the zoo, so they stopped off and we got to visit! Such a treat for me to see my best friend who lives so far away. She just had her third baby, so I was so happy I got to meet her. We all met in the game room of the resort right next to the pool and let the kids run around and we chatted. It was a nice little surprise that day! Here is a picture of all five of our kiddos. Let me tell you how hard it was to get this! And poor baby Bridget's face is covered by the darn cup holder and Ben doens't look like he has eyes. Argh!

They got on the road and we put on our bathing suits and hit the pool. The pool was awesome and perfect for the boys!! They had a great shallow end that the boys could stand in but could still swim and get under the water. We spent the next three hours splashing around. This was the day I realized how much of a fish Luke was and how much he LOVED swimming! We could barely get him out of the pool.
After swimming, we headed to our room and was amazed by it. It was a one bedroom that had a den, huge bathroom, full dining table and full kitchen. It was great for the four of us! We got cleaned up and had pizza for dinner that we cooked right there. After the long day, the boys needed some down time and I didn't want to battle a restaurant with them so it was a great set-up. After dinner, we headed to cook s'mores. MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE! Luke really just liked eating the marshmallows, but Ben loved the whole thing. He is so my son. We would roast and eat s'mores in this big area and talk to other families. It was a really neat thing to do every night and definitely would put a nice ending to the day.
The boys slept in the den on a little toddler bed and the pack 'n play. The patio was huge and the weather was perfect so we found ourselves talking the night away again on the patio over a glass of wine. The boys slept in the next morning till almost 8:00 (which NEVER happens) so I know they must have been so tired. We spent most of the next day at the pool or their lazy river beach. It was a great time. It feels good to finally be at a point where we can travel with the boys and really enjoy them and ourselves. It wasn't perfect, but the imperfect moments were fleeting and joyous times definitely shined.
Ben loving his red icee!
He also had a blue one -- which was very clear when I changed his diaper the next day.
This trip made me realize how much Luke is coming out of his shell and becoming his own little person. No matter where we went, Luke talked to anyone near us. We would walk to the pool and get somewhere and pass a man and he would run up to him and say, "Hi. My name is Luke. What is your name?" and just have a whole conversation. He is turning into such a friendly little guy and knows no stranger. It was fun to hear him strike up conversations with other people and families and instantly make friends.
Being silly!
This boy was obsessed with smores. Here he was on the last night...
And then five minutes later. He was a mess to clean-up! But he was sooooo happy.
The last morning, we decided to not swim since we were heading out around 11:00 am and didn't want to deal with wet swimsuits, etc. We instead walked around the resort property and also played on their little playground. We also played tons of hide-and-go-seek with Luke. His absolute favorite game! Even though he jumps out screaming the minute you reach to number 10!
Luke popping out of his hiding space!
Ben riding his horse!
We headed back to Houston on Wednesday and the boys were both asleep within 5 minutes of getting on the highway. They were pooped! We had a wonderful time and I couldn't recommend the Hyatt Wild Oak Ranch more. It was a fabulous stay and had all the things we needed for having little ones!
