{Luke Finds a Friend at the Doctor}

Luke had his 6 month check-up today and all is well! He weighs 20 pounds and 3 ounces (90th percentile) and measuring 27 inches long (65th percentile). He has two teeth coming through on his bottom gums and is doing great with his gross motor skills since he is sitting up unassisted and already getting on all fours and rocking. The boy definitely wants to move! He got his vaccines as well, and once again, got a fever of 100.1 to go with it. Let's hope that goes away by tomorrow! Between his gums hurting due to those darn teeth and the fever, he has been one sad baby today.

Here is a video I had wanted to share from the doctor's office! While we were waiting for the doctor to come in, Luke was sitting on the exam table which has a mirror right next to it. I will let the video shows what happens, but lets just say that Luke found a friend!

{Crawling 101}

For about a week and a half, Luke has been trying to crawl! First, he started doing a push-up like stance and now he is all the way up on all four's and rocking. I still think he has a way to go until he is truly crawling, but he sure is trying real hard! He must be enjoying it because look at that smile! Note...the video is very hazy. Not sure why!

{First Tooth}

It has been somewhat of a joke to say Luke has been teething. I swear I saw a "tooth" when Luke was only 3 months old. I didn't understand when it disappeared either...he he (seriously....it disappeared!). Clearly, I have a son who pulls fast ones on me. I had given up on the whole "tooth" excuse.

But on Saturday, August 21st, a few days shy of his 6 month birthday, Luke was not himself. He kept making this funny noise and could not be settled no matter what I did to help comfort him. He would reach his arms up for me to hold him (I love it when he does that!) and when I did, he would just wrestle with me and not be satisfied with anything. My mom said that we made noises like that and acted similarly when we got a tooth. So, for the hundred millionth time, I stuck my finger in his mouth clearly thinking there wouldn't be anything to find based on past experiences. Well all of a sudden I felt something sharp. Low and behold, he has finally gotten his first tooth! It is still just poking up from his gums, so no pictures yet (he barely lets me even look at them let alone let me take a picture), but it is there!!!

Since Saturday he has been much better. He makes these funny popeye faces sometimes and makes that funny noise occasionally throughout the day, but overall he is much better. I know once on tooth comes in, there is more to follow, but I am just thankful that darn tooth is finally here and I am no longer crazy!

{Diaper Cake}

I made my first diaper cake for a shower recently for Michael and Jacky who are expecting baby girl Macey in October and I wanted to post a picture of it. It looks like a bottle of pepto bismal exploded with all that pink!! It took almost 300 diapers and lots of decorations, but I finally finished it. Luke went with Chat and me to the shower and did very well, and even hammed it up a bit and gave everyone some laughs!

{Great-Grandma #3}

After waiting almost 6 months, Luke finally got to meet his third great-grandma! Eva came down from Oregon this month and we have been able to spend lots of time with her while she is here. She is leaving tomorrow, but will be back in the spring for another visit. Hopefully we will be able to take Luke on a trip up there in the coming years!

{Luke's First Cold}

Yup, our little man got his first cold this week. Luckily it is just a bunch of congestion and snottiness, no fever or earaches. But it has been a week of saline drops, aspirators and a cold mist humidifier. What fun! Luke HATES the nasal aspirator and it breaks my heart every time we have to do it. It does help so much though, so Chat and I work together to hold him down and do it. Even though I don't think he is contagious, we have been hangin' at home just in case so we don't get any other kiddos sick too. He can't be feeling to bad because all I have been getting is smiles and giggles!

Hopefully we will be back to our regular posts soon!

{Solids Update}

Solids are still a no-go with Luke (as you can tell from the picture below with bananas all over his face versus in his mouth!). I have tried every solid available and nothing seems to do the trick. However, he does LOVE the spoon! So we try...and try...and try eating for a bit and then I give up and he gets to play with the spoon. For such a huge eater when it comes to breastmilk and formula, he has totally surprised me with not grasping baby food. But we will keep trying!

{Sitting Up}

At 5 1/2 months old, Luke is sitting up all by himself...completely unassisted! He has been doing it pretty well with some help for the past 3 weeks, but over this past weekend he perfected his sit. He still sometimes does fall backward, but not that often anymore. This is all he wants to do now though...no more tummy time for him. I am so proud of our little guy!

{A Weekend of Firsts}

We headed down to Galveston to my parent's house on the bay this past weekend. We wanted to make it down there before the summer was over. It was a wonderful time!!! Last time we went, Luke was only 2 months old, so this trip was much more eventful for him. It was a weekend of firsts for Luke, and I think he loved it :)
First time to wear his floppy hat...

First time in a baby pool...

First time to wear a life jacket...
First time to wear sunglasses....

First time on a boat....

First time in a swing....

After the busy weekend, he was worn out!

{Casey Party}

Last weekend we were invited to Luke's friend Cooper's house for a barbeque! It was a great time and we got to meet many families with kids about Luke's age. Cooper is one great host....a party animal (as is his mom and dad, Whitney and Chad)! Ha ha - he was so tired he had to take a nap during the middle of it! Cooper even let Luke try out his jumper. Luke loved it at their house so we decided to get one on Monday. Luke doesn't seem to like the one at our house as much :)

{What is Different?}

Can you tell what is different about Luke in this picture???

If you guessed 'pacifier' than you are right! After 5 months, Luke decided he likes his pacifier after all. A little too late to help with those first few months of fussiness and lack of sleep, but I guess we will take it. It happened a few nights ago when we were up with him at 2 am due to teething (arghh!). I was desperate to find something to help soothe him and saw a bowl full of pacifiers (that I tried for months for him to take) near the glider I was rocking him in. I thought "Why not?"...and low and behold he took it, was immediately comforted and fell fast asleep. I am being careful not to use it too much right now, but it has been very helpful during these crazy days of trying to grow a tooth!

{Baptism Pictures}

Luke's baptism on Sunday was a wonderful, special day for Chat and me! It means so much to both of us that Luke was baptized, and that he was baptized at the church we got married in. The service was at 2:30 pm and afterwards we all headed to my parents for a little get together. Here are LOTS of pictures of the day...
